About this lookup

How accurate is the location?

Country is right for the vast majority of addresses. City is a best guess: it is usually where the network registers the block, which for mobile carriers, VPNs and cloud providers can be far from the actual device. Treat the coordinates as the middle of an area, not a street address.

What is an ASN?

An autonomous system number identifies the network that announces the address to the rest of the internet: an ISP, a cloud provider, a CDN or a large company. The network column is the routed block the address belongs to.

What is reverse DNS?

The PTR record the address owner publishes for it. Mail servers check it, and it often names the provider or the host. Many addresses have none.

Is anything stored?

No. Lookups run on demand against a local database and the results are not saved. There are no cookies or tracking on the tool path.
